PE pipe, full name polyethylene pipe, is a pipe made of polyethylene, a polymer material. ‌Polyethylene is a colorless, odorless, non-toxic thermoplastic with good corrosion resistance, chemical resistance and aging resistance.

Application process characteristics

PE pipe has a wide range of applications, including HDPE pipe for water supply, HDPE Gas Pipe, etc., and is an important part of the municipal pipe market. Its main raw material is polyethylene resin, which is made by extrusion molding process and is widely used in indoor and outdoor low-temperature water supply pipes and other fields. PE pipe has excellent resistance to most domestic and industrial chemicals. Some types of chemicals such as corrosive oxidants, aromatic hydrocarbons and halogenated hydrocarbons may cause chemical corrosion. In addition, PE pipe also has good electrical properties and impact resistance, suitable for wires and cables, and can still maintain good impact resistance at low temperatures. PE pipe can be divided into water supply, drainage, gas supply and power pipes according to their use. The connection method is usually hot-melt butt joint, and hot-melt socket connection is used for smaller specifications. PE pipes are often used as the preferred pipe material in the sewage treatment industry in municipal engineering. Due to its wear resistance, acid resistance, corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance, and high pressure resistance, it has gradually replaced traditional materials such as steel pipes and cement pipes.

Application difference between HDPE and PE pipes

1. Scope of application: HDPE pipes are mainly used for municipal water supply pipes or outdoor buried pipes because of their good pressure resistance and corrosion resistance. PE pipes are mainly used in homes to transport gas and natural gas. They can also be used for floor heating pipes and have good high temperature resistance.

2. Strength: HDPE pipes have high strength and pressure, are made of PE resin, have good mechanical properties, and are 9 times stronger than PE pipes. PE pipes have low strength and are more suitable for low-pressure applications.

3. Wear resistance coefficient: HDPE has a high molecular weight and the wear resistance coefficient is the best among all pipes. The wear resistance coefficient of PE pipes is only one-tenth of that of HDPE pipes.

4. Material: HDPE pipes are made of high-density polyethylene, while PE pipes are made of polyethylene plastic.

5. Density: The density of HDPE is above 0.940 g, while the density of PE pipe is between 0.926 and 0.940 g. 1.

6. Application scenarios: Due to its higher strength and compressive resistance, HDPE pipe is suitable for applications that need to withstand greater pressure, such as urban water supply pipes, industrial pipes, etc. PE pipe is more suitable for low-pressure water pipes, farmland irrigation, etc. due to its lower strength and flexibility.
