PE 4710 pipe

October 31, 2024

PE 4710 pipe, full name Polyethylene (PE) 4710 pipe, is a high-performance pipe made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) resin as the main raw material. The PE 4710 number comes from the ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) standard, which is used to indicate the density, slow crack growth rate and hydrostatic design stress of the base resin. Its four-digit code represents several key performance parameters of the material, which enables it to show excellent performance in various applications.

PE 4710 pipe characteristics

PE 4710 pipe has a 3-level density unit, which means that it has a moderate density and can provide good mechanical strength and chemical stability.

In addition, it also has a 7-level slow crack growth unit, which means that its ability to resist crack growth is excellent.

Slow crack growth is one of the main failure modes of polyethylene pipes under long-term stress, and the excellent performance of PE 4710 pipe in this regard has extended its service life. According to laboratory reports, PE 4710 pipe can be used for more than 100 years under most water quality conditions, which makes it particularly suitable for water supply systems that need to operate for a long time.

In terms of hydrostatic design stress, the pipe can withstand a maximum hydrostatic pressure of 1,000 psi (about 6.9 MPa) at a water temperature of 73°F (about 23°C), which makes it perform well in high-pressure water supply systems.

The flexibility of PE 4710 pipe is also an important advantage. It can eliminate local overstress through slight deformation, thereby reducing the risk of leakage. This flexibility also makes it easier to adapt to terrain changes during installation, reducing installation difficulty and cost.

Application fields

PE 4710 pipes have a wide range of applications. In urban and rural tap water systems, it has become an ideal choice for water supply mains and buried pipes due to its cleanliness, convenience in construction and long service life.

In terms of gas transportation, PE 4710 pipes have gradually replaced traditional cast iron pipes and become the main pipeline material for urban gas transportation.

In addition, PE 4710 pipes are also widely used in municipal sewage, gardening water supply networks, agricultural irrigation pipes, and siphon drainage systems of large factories.

Production process

1. Raw material preparation

Material selection: The main raw material of PE 4710 pipes is high-density polyethylene (HDPE) resin that meets the ASTM D3350 standard. This resin has excellent physical and chemical properties and is an ideal material for manufacturing high-performance pipes.

Additives: According to production requirements, appropriate amounts of antioxidants, UV inhibitors and other additives will be added to the raw materials to improve the weather resistance and service life of the pipes.

Quality inspection: Before the raw materials are put into production, they will undergo strict quality inspection to ensure that they meet production standards.

2. Mixing and conveying

Mixing: Mix PE resin, masterbatch, additives and other raw materials in a certain proportion to ensure the consistency of the color and performance of the pipe.

Conveying: The mixed raw materials are transported to the extruder through the conveying equipment to prepare for the subsequent molding process.

3. Molding and cooling

Heating and melting: The raw materials are heated and melted in the extruder to form a melt with a certain fluidity.

Extrusion molding: The molten raw materials are pushed by the screw and extruded through the mold to form a continuous pipe. The design of the mold will be customized according to the specifications and requirements of the pipe.

Vacuum cooling and shaping: The molded pipe will immediately enter the vacuum cooling and shaping device, and the pipe will be quickly cooled and shaped through vacuum suction and cooling water.

4. Traction and cutting

Traction: The pipe after cooling and shaping is pulled by the traction device to maintain the continuity and stability of the pipe.

Cutting: According to production requirements, the pipe will be cut at a suitable length to form a single pipe product.

5. Post-processing and inspection

Appearance inspection: Perform an appearance inspection on the cut pipe to ensure that the pipe surface is smooth, free of bubbles, cracks and other defects.

Dimension measurement: Use measuring tools to measure the length, outer diameter, wall thickness and other dimensions of the pipe to ensure that they meet the standard requirements.

Performance test: Perform water pressure test, bending performance test, etc. on the pipe to ensure that it has sufficient pressure resistance and air tightness.

 PE 4710 pipe

In general, PE 4710 pipe has become an indispensable part of modern pipeline systems with its excellent performance and wide application fields. With the continuous advancement of technology and the continuous expansion of applications, PE 4710 pipe will continue to play an important role in future pipeline systems, providing safer, more reliable and efficient pipeline solutions for people's lives and industrial production.
